Petechial hemorrhaging is not something I’ve yet written about. Which I find odd as it was one of the earliest symptoms I sought medical treatment for. The doctors were stumped. And it let to me on a pathway which let to my first cancer screening and very painful biopsy. I was then told to be more careful with my body and not to beat it up so much. At some point, I gave up. One doctor, a dermatologist did give me the core mechanics of how petechia are created — ruptured capillaries. The doc suggessted that taking 1000 mg/day of vitamin C would reinforce the sides of the capillaries preventing rupture. It would take weeks, but I should see a reduction if not an elimination of the petechial hemorrhaging.
It was years later that I would find the cause. My muscles would spasm so greatly, that the cellular walls would rupture. This would cause a variety of bruises, depending on the veracity and type of cell tearing. During those times, my base pain level was about 8/10 and I would frequently be in the 10+ range.
I now look upon the days of 10+ pain level and wonder how I ever survived them. I remained at a base-level of 8/10 for 5+ years. My base level is now about 3/10. I occasionally travel into the realm of 2, and rarely into 1. Horrifically, I’ve recently incurred level 9/10 and am currently recovering from the foray.
It took me a while to understand people’s subdued response to me having spasms. Yes, I was having spasms, but my muscles tear when my muscles spasm. A normal person doesn’t tear muscles when they have a spasm. I didn’t realize that. The first time I had spasms, the muscles tore. When I would explain the difference and show the petechia, a level of understanding would be gained.
Petechia – a little word, with a horror behind it.
