Chapter 1: The Journey Begins

I was a thin little thing as a child. I was the last of eight children born to “devout” congregants of the local Roman Catholic Church. Strangely enough, there was no abuse of young boys, that I knew of, within our local church. I think the priest probably would have been run out of town within a minute of accusations flying. But, there were none. Nope, this is not a book of sexual abuse by RCC Priests, nor is it a book of sexual abuse at all. No, this is a book of surviving. It is a book about beating the odds. The journey is one of facing insurmountable odds and coming out at minimum a stalemate and then going on to the next challenge.

What does it mean to be a warrior? Does it mean to be engaged in warfare where blood is splattered and limbs are separated from torso and watching the life leave the eyes of a fellow soldier? No. A warrior is defined not by what is outside, but what is carried inside. The circumstances do not define the human, rather the human defines itself. For good, bad or disaster, a warrior never leaves the post until relieved. Until then, they Soldier on.
